Sept 8-12

Weekly Lesson Plans September 8th-12th

Monday- BR# 12 1. Why should the results of an experiment be repeatable?  2. What is the difference between a hypothesis and a prediction? Students will take a quiz over Chapter 2 S. 1 about the Scientific Method.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 2 S.2 about Statistics and Models. Homework: Active Reading Statistics and Models.

Tuesday- BR# 13 1. How do you make decisions? 2. What factors do you consider?  Students will have a quiz over chapter 2 S.2. Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 2 S.3 about Making Informed Decisions.  Homework: Active Reading Making Informed Decisions.

Wednesday- BR# 14 Read :Saving the Everglades" pg. 48 answer both questions.  Students will have a quiz over Chapter 2 S.3.  Students will watch a video about The Florida Everglades.

Thursday- Students will watch a video about Jane Goodall.

Friday- Students will have a vocab quiz over the 20 vocab words for Chapter 2.

Sept 1-5

Weekly Lesson Plans September 1st-5th

Monday- No School

Tuesday- BR# 8 Look on page 32.  How would these videos help scientists?  Students will watch some video clips reviewing some concepts about pollution, and sustainability.  Homework: Chapter 2 Vocab pg. 52.

Wednesday- BR# 9 What kind of tools do you think scientists use? Students will work on a Poison Pump activity.  Students will watch a video clip about John Snow and the water pump problem of 1894.

Thursday- BR# 10 1. What is an observation? 2. Why might scientists be measuring the wolf's tail in the picture on page 33?  3. Once they make measurements how might the scientists use these measurements?  Students will begin taking notes over Chapter 2 Section 1.  Students will complete the Quick Lab about Hypothesizing ad Predicting.  Homework: Map Skills.

Friday- BR# 11 Read "The Experimental Method in action at Knee High School" on page 35 and answer both questions in your journal.  Students will watch some video clips about scientific studies on trees.  Students will complete the Activity: Park it right here on page 35.  If notes from section 1 were not finished we will finish them.  Students will have a quiz over Chapter 1 S. 1 on Monday.

Aug 25-29

Weekly Lesson Plans August 25th-29th

MondayBR#4 List 5 things that you can do to reduce your ecological footprint. Finish notes for Chapter 1 Section 2.  Homework: Vocab and Active Reading.

TuesdayBR#5  Read Chicken of the Trees on page 30-31.  Answer questions in your journal from the bottom of the page.  Students will have the rest of the period to work on the Chapter 1 Study Guide. Homework: Chapter 1 Study Guide due Wednesday.

Wednesday-BR#6 Answer questions 1-4, 7-13 from page 26 in your journal.  Students will trade and grade the Chapter 1 Study Guide. Homework: Study for Chapter 1 Test on Friday.

ThursdayBR#7  Read Lake Washington on page 13 and answer question 1 in your journal.  Students will play the game show review to review for their Chapter 1 test on Friday.  Homework: Study for the Chapter 1 Test.

FridayChapter 1 Test.  Extra Credit will be offered on the test.

Aug 18-22

Weekly Lesson Plans August 18th-22nd

Monday-I will check that students have a binder and a journal just for my class for 10 points.  Students will participate in a Peanut Lab in which they will be describing, measuring, weighing, and drawing a peanut that they choose out of a bowl.  The goal is to help students understand that when doing lab work they need to be very specific, descriptive, and accurate.  Students will fill out a following directions sheet to help them understand the importance of reading and following all directions.  Students will fill out a get to know you sheet and I will share with the students some of my background and interests.  Students will be assigned a Physical Science textbook. Reminder: Parent signature sheet is due on Tuesday the 19st.

Tuesday- BR#1 1. What do you think of when someone mentions the environment? 2. What do you think environmental science is?  Students will have discussion and take notes over Chapter 1 Section 1 Understanding Our Environment.  Homework: Graphic Organizer pg. 9.  Students will have a quiz over today's information on Thursday.

Wednesday- BR#2 1.List some of the most significant environmental problems in the world today. 2. What are some environmental problems in the local community? Students will have discussion and take notes over Chapter 1 Section 1 Understanding Our Environment.  Homework: Active Reading: Understanding Our Environment.  Reminder: Students will have a quiz over Ch 1 S.1 on Thursday.

Thursday- BR#3 Brainstorm a list of ways economics is related to our environment.  Students will have a quiz over Ch1 S.1  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 1 Section 2 The Environment and Society.  Homework: Active Reading: The Environment and Society.

Friday- Students will be working in the library all period on a website that will allow them to calculate their ecological footprint.  Homework: Students need to finish calculating their ecological footprint if they did not finish in class.

Aug 11-15

Weekly Lesson Plans
August 11th-15th

Monday- No School

Tuesday- No School

Wednesday- Teachers Institute

Thursday- Students will get an assigned seat.  I will go over the class syllabus (this is posted on the right side if you want to check it out and see what the students will be learning and doing this year).
Extra Credit: bring in 2 kleenex boxes for 10pts any time starting Friday the 15th until Friday the 29th.
Homework: Get a notebook (journal) and a 3 ring binder just for my class.  I will check that you have both for 10 points on Monday the 18th. If students cannot get these supplies they need to talk to me before class on Monday (I have extras for those who cannot get them).

Friday- I will go over classroom rules with the students (also posted on the right).  I will also be going over  how to write a lab report, and how to outline a chapter.  Students will get sheets for all of these topics and they will be expected to keep all of them in their binder.
Homework: Students will get a parent signature sheet.  Their second assignment is to share my classroom rules with you and have you sign the sheet stating that you both have read and understand my rules and expectations.  The sheet is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday the 19th for 10 points.
