May 13-17

Weekly Lesson Plans May 13th-17th

Monday- Students will work on their Study Guide for the final.  The study Guide covers Biomes, Grasslands, Desert, Tundra, Forests, Freshwater, Marine, and Water.  
Study Guides will be collected on the day of the final for a grade.

Tuesday- Students will work on their Study Guide for the final.

April 29-May3

Weekly Lesson Plans April 29th- May 3rd

Monday- Students will watch the Planet Earth Deep Ocean Video.

Tuesday- Students will finish the Deep Ocean Video.  Students will be given information about the Field Trip on Tuesday May 7th. Students will be given a homework sheet that will help them review the vocab for the Marine chapter.

Wednesday- Students will trade and grade the Marine Study Guide.

Thursday- Marine Biome Test.  Extra Credit will be given out after the test.

Friday- Half Day. Students will be working on practicing Water Testing for the field trip.

April 22-26

Weekly Lesson Plans April 22nd-26th

Monday- BR#44 List the three vertical zones of the ocean and the 3 horizontal zones of the ocean. Students will take notes and have discussion over Marine Biomes S.2 Standing Water.  Homework: Marine Ecosystems worksheet.

Tuesday- BR#45 Answer Questions 1, 3, and 5 on page. 202. Students will finish taking notes over Marine Biomes S.3 Flowing Water.  Homework: Map Skills.

Wednesday- Students will work on a Smithsonian Education Lab Activity about Observing Whales, Identifying them based on their markings, and how they track them through out the year.

Thursday-Students will work on a Smithsonian Education Lab Activity about Observing Whales, Identifying them based on their markings, and how they track them through out the year.  Lab is due at the end of the period.

Friday- Students have the entire period to work on the Marine Study Guide.  Study Guide is due on Wednesday May 1st.


April 15-19

Weekly Lesson Plans April 15th-19th

Monday- Classes 1-4 Students will start our Marine Unit by watching Planet Earth's Deep Ocean video and answer questions.

Tuesday- Classes 5-8 No Environmental Classes this day.

Wednesday- Classes 1-4 Students will finish the Deep Ocean Video.  Then they will read a Science Daily Article about Squids and how their eyes may help us figure out how to cure eye diseases.

Thursday- Classes 5-8 No Environmental Classes this day.

Friday- BR# 43 Read the diagram "Living Water Quality Indicators" on pg. 203.  Answer questions 11, 12, and 13 in your journal.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Marine Biomes S.1.  Homework: Students will read a science news article about how commercial fishing in causing a decline in the sea turtle population.

Weekly Lesson Plans April 8th-12th

Monday-BR# 42 Students read about Hurricane Katrina on pg. 207. Answer the what do you think questions at the bottom. Students took notes and had discussion over Freshwater S.3 Flowing Water.  Homework: Acoustics explain why boats and animals collide.

Tuesday- Students will work on their Freshwater Biome Study Guide.

Wednesday-Students will watch Bill Nye Wetlands to review some of the important concepts they learned this chapter about Wetlands.  Then the will have the rest of the period to finish their Freshwater Study Guide.

Thursday-Students will trade and grade the Freshwater Study Guide and then play a review game.

Friday- Freshwater Biome Test.  Extra Credit will be given out after the test.

April 1-5

Weekly Lesson Plans April 1st -5th

Monday- Students will watch the Planet Earth Freshwater video as an introduction to Freshwater Biomes.

Tuesday- Students will finish the Planet Earth video from Monday.  Then students will read an article about How Climate Change Makes Migrations Longer for Birds.

Wednesday- BR#40 1. Describe the different plants and animals in the aquarium.  2. What requirements do the fish in the aquarium need to live? 3. What would happen if a fish from the ocean were added to the aquarium? Students took notes over Freshwater S.1.  Homework: S.1 Review Questions

Thursday- BR#41 Read Wetlands in the U.S. pg. 206. Answer questions 1-4 in your journal.  Students will take notes over Freshwater S.2 Standing water.  Students will have a worksheet about S.2.

Friday- Students will watch a video about The Florida Everglades.  Then students will answer questions about the Everglades from A Annual Everglades Report.

March 11-22

Weekly Lesson Plans for March 11th-22nd

Monday- Students are trading and grading their Study Guide over Forests. 

Tuesday- Students are taking the Chapter 9 test over Coniferous, Deciduous, and Rain Forests.  Extra Credit will be given after the test.

Wednesday- Students will be watching the old version of The Lorax.  Students will be exploring three exvironmental attitudes- conservationist, preservationist, and developmentalist. 

Thursday- To wrap up our Unit on Terrestrail Biomes, students will use the internet to research informatuion about any animal they choose.  They will have to identify several things such as: scientific name, specifit habitat, biome, specific features, activities, life span, gestation length, number of offspring, if they are migratory, what they eat, natural enemies, etc.  

Friday- Students will take the Discovery Education Science Test.

Weekly Lesson Plans March 11th-15th

Monday- Students are continuing to work on their Tree ID lab.

Tuesday- Students are continuing to work on their Tree ID lab.

Wednesday- Students are finishing the Tree ID lab.  If students are not done with the lab they have to come in during lunch, study hall, or after school to finish.  They have until Friday since the students have had 5-6 days in class to do the lab.

Thursday- Students are working on their Forest Study Guide.

Friday- Half Day.  Students are continuing to work on their Forest Study Guide. Study Guide is due on Monday the 18th.

Weekly Lesson Plans February 25th-March 1st

Monday- Students will take notes and have discussion over The Deciduous Forest.  Students will watch a clip about the Decidusous Forest and answer questions to a Video Quiz.

Tuesday- Students will take notes and have discussion over the Rain Forest.  Students will have homework over S.1 Coniferous Forest and S.2 Deciduous Forest.

Wednesday- Students will watch the Jeff Corwin Experience: Guyana Rain Forest Ecosystem.  Homework: History of Paper Making.

Thursday- Students will finsh the Rain Forest notes.  Homework: Forest Giant National Geographic Article.

Friday- Students will watch the Planet Earth Jungle Video

March 4-8

Weekly Lesson Plans March 4th-8th

Reminder: Journals are due for the 3rd quarter Friday #29-39

Monday- Students will finish the last part of the Planet Earth Jungle (tropical rain forest) video.  Then students will work on a Shark Dichotomous Key Activity.  This activity will introduce them to dichotomous keys that they will be using the rest of the week in lab.

Tuesday- Students will start the Tree Identification Lab.  They will be allowed to work in partners.  All work for the lab will be done in class.

Wednesday- Students will continue with the Tree ID lab.

Thursday- Students will continue with the Tree ID lab.

Friday- Journals are due #29-39 at the beginning of the period.  Students will continue with the Tree ID lab.

Monday- No School

Tuesday- Students watch the Planet Earth Seasonal Forest Video as an introduction to our Forest Unit.

Wednesday- Finish last 10 minutes of the Planet Earth Video.  Students read a Case Study about how Predators Restore Biodiversity in Yellowstone.

Thursday- Students took notes over the Coniferous Forest.  Students read a Case Study about Saving an African Eden.

Friday- Snow Day

Weekly Lesson Plans Feb 11th-15th

Monday- Students have the class period to work on their Grassland Study Guide.

Tuesday- Students have the class period to work on their Grassland Study Guide.

Wednesday- Trade and grade the Study Guide and review for the test.

Thursday- Grassland Test.  Extra Credit is given after the test.

Friday- I showed students what they got on their test.  Students read an Active Reading about the Desert, Tundra, and Grassland biomes and answered questions.

Feb 4th-8th

Monday- BR# 38 1. Where is the shortgrass prairie located? 2. What plants grow in a shortgrass prairie?  3. What animals live in a short grass prairie?  4. What are the major threats of short grass prairies?  Students will take notes over Grasslands Part 2 Steppes.  Homework: Biofuels worksheet

Tuesday- Students worked on a Biome Map.

Wednesday- Students had time in class to finish their Biome Map.  Then we watched a video clip about Prairie Dogs.

Thursday- BR #39 1. What plants live in a remnant grassland? 2. What animals live in a remnant grassland? Students finish taking notes over the Grassland Prairie and Savanna.

Friday- Students watch the Great Plains Video.

Wednesday- BR#35 Read pg. 94 answer questions 1-3 Earthquake Hazard Map of the U.S. Notes over Desert Animals.  Homework: Human Impact on the Nile River Delta.

Thursday- Fearless Planet Video Sahara Desert

Friday- Assembly- 1st hour will not meet.

Weekly Lesson Plans January 7th-11th

Monday- BR# 30 Why is it hard for trees to survive at the tops of very high mountains?  Students will finish the last few slides of Chapter 6 section 1 notes.  Students will complete a worksheet about What is a Biome?  Then students will read over Factors that Influence an Ecosystem and make several hypotheses.  Students will have a quiz over CH 6 S.1 on Tuesday.  Homework: None.

Tuesday- Students will take a Quiz over Ch 6 S.1 about biomes.  Then students will work on Factors that Influence an Ecosystem.  Students will graph altitude and precipitation for several different locations.  Homework: None

Wednesday- BR # 31 Read pg. 151 Eating the Bait answer questions 1 and 2.  Students will continue to work on Factors the Influence an Ecosystem.  They need to finish graphing the information about altitude and precipitation so they can answer the analysis questions.  If students do not finish it will be homework.

Thursday- BR#32 Read "Tracking Ocean Currents with Toy Ducks" pg. 95 answer both questions.  Students will take notes over Desert/Tundra.  Homework: One of Each Organism

 Friday- BR#33 Answer Questions 1-4 and 7 on pg. 178.  Students will finish their Desert notes.  Students will watch a short clip about American Deserts.  Students can work on their vocab assignment that is due at the end of the period.  Homework : Fighting in the Desert

Thursday- Students will review Mrs. Stallings classroom procedures and rules. Students will watch a video to introduce the Chapter 6 concepts of Biomes, "Biomes: Our Earth's Major Life Zones".  Students will follow along and fill in the video quiz.

Friday- BR # 29 Look at pg. 152 Identify adaptations of the thorny devil in the photo.  Write down another desert animal and how they have adapted to living in a hot dry place.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Ch 6 S.1 What is a Biome?  Homework: Ch 6 S.1 Review pg. 155 #1-6.
